Mei Hua Divination

Mei Hua Yi Shu (梅花易数) is a branch of Yi Jing (I Ching) that uses time, numbers, and surrounding phenomena. Enter the time of your question to read the direction of a decision, future trends, lost items, even health.

Use the moment the question arose in your mind (the current time is fine).

What is Mei Hua Divination?

Mei Hua Yi Shu (梅花易数), "Plum Blossom Numerology", is a method of I Ching divination created by Shao Yong. Instead of tossing coins or yarrow stalks, Mei Hua turns time, numbers, or nearby events into a hexagram. It is used to predict the outcome of a decision, read future trends, find lost items, and even sense health conditions.

How the time method works

  • Date & hour convert to the lunar calendar: the year zodiac number (1-12), lunar month, lunar day, and the double-hour (shichen).
  • Upper trigram = (zodiac + month + day) mod 8; lower trigram = (… + hour) mod 8; a remainder of 0 counts as 8.
  • Moving line = (zodiac + month + day + hour) mod 6 (remainder 0 = line 6). This line forms the Changed Hexagram.
  • The trigram holding the moving line becomes Yong (environment); the other is Ti (self). Their five-element relationship decides whether it is favorable.
