AI Overview & Citation Checker
Ranking and being cited are now two different games. Check whether a keyword triggers a Google AI Overview, who it quotes, and whether that is you — or someone below you in the results.
Live Google data. Free live searches are limited per day — recently checked keywords are served from cache and cost nothing.
Winning the link, losing the answer
When Google shows an AI Overview it answers the question on the results page and cites a handful of sources. Those citations do not simply mirror the top 10 — a page at position 8 can be quoted while position 1 is ignored, and sites that do not rank at all can appear as sources. If you rank but are not cited, the traffic goes to whoever was quoted. That gap is what this tool measures.
Frequently asked questions
Why am I not cited when I rank number one?
Because the AI Overview is not chosen by rank. It picks passages it can lift and attribute — a clear, self-contained answer to the question being asked. A page can rank first on links and authority while offering no passage worth quoting. That is an answerability problem, not a ranking problem.
Do AI Overviews appear for every keyword?
No, and that is useful information. They cluster on informational and question-shaped queries and are rarer on transactional ones. If your keyword shows no AI Overview, ranking still gets you the click — the classic SEO game is intact for that term.
Why do some sources show a name instead of a domain?
Google sometimes hands out an opaque redirect token instead of a real URL for a citation. When that happens the actual link is not knowable, so this tool shows the source name Google gave (for example Reddit) and does not invent a domain or a link for it.
Are these results live?
Yes, they come from a live Google search for the country you pick. Identical keyword and country combinations are cached for six hours, so repeat checks are instant and do not consume the free daily limit.
How do I actually get cited?
Give the engine something clean to quote: a question-shaped heading, a direct answer under it in about 60 words, and FAQPage schema around it. The AEO Checker on this site grades a page on exactly that and generates the schema for you.
