How this works, and how to fix common mistakes
Google's disavow file supports exactly two entry types: "domain:example.com" to disavow every link from an entire domain (the recommended default, since spammy sites usually keep adding new pages), or a complete URL starting with http:// or https:// to disavow links from one specific page only. Lines starting with # are comments Google ignores; blank lines are skipped.
"domain:" entries must be a bare domain — no scheme, no path, no port, no wildcard. A domain-level entry only covers that exact host and the subdomains beneath it: "domain:www.example.com" does NOT cover the root "example.com" or other subdomains — if you mean the whole site, use the root domain.
URL entries must be a complete, absolute URL — Google evaluates exactly what you list. Anything after a # fragment is never sent to a server and is silently ignored, so strip it. Wildcards (*) are not supported in either entry type.
This tool also checks your list against itself: exact duplicates, single-page URLs already covered by a "domain:" entry elsewhere in the file, and — if you fill in your own domain — links you are accidentally disavowing from your OWN site, which throws away real SEO value for no reason.
The file itself is capped at 2MB by Google. Once your score looks good, download the cleaned file below — it strips invalid, duplicate and redundant lines but keeps every comment and valid entry untouched.
